Hi Singers!
You want to unlock your singing voice, huh? I’m excited for you, this is a really fun (and vulnerable) journey you’re embarking on!
In this week’s video I lead you through a series of 5 fairly simple exercises to get you started on your singing journey. So please watch that if that’s what you’d like to do!
For the blog though, I want to chat about the mental blocks that can prevent us from unlocking our voices. If you’ve found your way to me, you probably sing and want to improve, or you’ve always wanted to sing but you’ve been held back. The voice is the only instrument that is inside of our body. Just like learning any instrument, singing might not be in tune or pretty in the beginning. But because it’s a bit of us that’s coming out, not being amazing at the onset can be discouraging. And then we decide to keep our voices locked inside our bodies and never try again. Well, not today!
Let’s reframe some of that negative self-talk.
I was born with a voice, it is my duty to share it.
I was born with a voice and a desire to sing, it is my duty to learn how.
I was born with a voice and a desire to sing, it is my duty to be brave enough to try.
I have committed to learning and improving, it is my duty to practice.
I have practiced and trained, it is my duty to share my gift.
If we make it less about the judgments we think others will have about us (which they won’t), we can make it more about our experience in making music. Our time on earth is not very long, you have been given a wonderful gift and the desire to use it. It is your duty to train and share it with others.
Keep learning, keep singing, and keep sharing your voice, we wanna hear it!
