Hi Singers!
It can be so anxiety-provoking to think that maybe you’re struggling with pitch and you don’t even know it, worse still…you don’t know how to fix it!
With my students, I’ve found that when struggling with overthinking and anxiety makes pitchiness worse. When my students are able to move from the prefrontal cortex and start singing from a centered, relaxed place, they are able to connect with the music in a meaningful way allowing them to sing in tune with ease.
In this video, we’ll be using mindfulness exercises to move away from perfectionism and towards musicianship in 4 steps:
Awareness & attunement
A. Breathwork
B. Centering
Active Listening
A. Taking in ambient sounds
B. Deeply listening ambient tones
Resonating with the tone
A. Phonating with a hum
B. Phonating with an open vowel
Scales
A. Internalizing intervals
I hope this video helps you release any anxiety you have about singing “right” and instead connecting with tones. If it’s helpful, let me know in the comments! If you need another video addressing specific vocal techniques, I’d love to make that for you, just let me know!
In the meantime, keep learning, keep singing, and keep sharing your voice…we really want to hear it!
